In honor of World Read Aloud Day, I want to share a very special book with you that was enthusiastically recommended to me by one of our very own first grade teachers, Ms. Devera!

A few years ago, I enrolled in the School Smarts Parent Academy pilot program taught by Ms. Devera here at Skyline Elementary School, which discussed the importance of parent involvement for children and their schools. It is because of her dedication and this program that I advocate being active and involved at school and in my children’s education. During one of the sessions, Ms. Devera introduced us to The Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease. This book is easily one of the most valuable parenting books I have ever read, and encourages me to want to read more to my children. Reading aloud is a wonderful gift that you can give to your child. It will inspire them to become lifelong, avid readers and improve their literacy skills.
